Adolescence

Adolescence can be a challenging stage in life. Receiving the support your teen and family deserve shouldn’t be.

ADOLESCENT COUNSELING

  • As a specialist in adolescent counseling, my caring, empathetic, and often straightforward approach allows me to build a strong rapport with your teen, which is key to achieving desired treatment outcomes. By having a therapist they can trust, your teen will learn to express their emotions in a healthy manner. Issues that are addressed include depression, anxiety, anger, self harm, suicidal ideations, self worth, body image issues and oppositional behaviors. Emotional and/ or behavioral issues may be personal or triggered by outside sources such as bullying, social media, poor social skills, dating/ relationship issues, or poor academic performance.

FAMILY SUPPORT

  • The challenges your adolescent is experiencing often have an impact on the entire family system. When appropriate, integrating family sessions, both with and without your adolescent present, can benefit the family unit. This additional family support is a fruitful way for you to learn ways to support your teen as they navigate through their current challenges. During our sessions you will learn ways to increase the effectiveness of the parenting skills you already possess in order to alter your adolescent’s behaviors without having them participate in the counseling process. As your therapist I will provide you with the additional support that is often needed when changing the behavior of a resistant teen. We will identify contributing factors to your current situation and explore additional community and social resources which, together, can have a positive impact.

PREVENTATIVE COUNSELING

  • It goes without saying that you want the best for your teen and you’ll give them whatever you can to help them succeed. So why do we often overlook the benefits of giving them preventive counseling? Unfortunately, many of us do not consider preventive counseling; instead we usually seek counseling for our adolescents once they are in the midst of personal struggles. Like anything else in life, practice makes perfect. By removing the stigma surrounding mental health issues, you can give your adolescent the opportunity to learn how to navigate through life more comfortably, with the confidence of knowing they have the tools to overcome any potential barriers.

Is your teen resistant to counseling?

That's okay!

Together we will develop a plan that is specific to your teen’s behaviors and your family’s situation.
